Waverton

This Waverton, NSW garden illustrates how a family’s lifestyle can be enhanced by simply redesigning an existing backyard. Some demolition is usually involved, but the process need not be disruptive to daily life, and the benefits at the end are immeasurable.

The clients wished to have an outdoor dining and entertainment area, with the garden area composed of shade-giving trees and a healthy lawn, as well as improvements to the garage. An area for securing their dogs was also required for certain situations. After a thorough survey and discussion, the team produced a plan for the limited space that outperformed all expectations.

All surfaces and materials were chosen to match the house’s style, making the garden a natural fit. The outdoor dining area features a retractable awning overhead for shade, and soft lighting for evening use. The surrounding planter box and wall are enclosed in quality Tallowwood timber for a warm appearance, while also doubling as extra seating.

The lawn was fitted with a fire pit for use on cold nights, providing heat to gather around. A reflection pond for quiet contemplation was included.

Work on the garage was comprehensive, with a turntable installed on the driveway to allow ease of parking, with all new garage flooring, shelves, and storage facilities added in the process. The family’s love of sports and games is supported with a new mezzanine level to the garage that keeps their equipment readily available. Even the dogs have a utility space created adjacent to the house.

With features for all members of the family, this backyard garden easily extends the owners’ enjoyment of their home.
