Newport 2
The owners of this property had carried out a renovation to transform their small beachside fibro cottage into a contemporary timber and stone beach house. The landscaping brief was to design and construct a garden with a Mediterranean feel, using robust plantings to withstand the salt winds and northerly aspect.
The large family (including a dog) wanted to be able to share the space with extended family and friends. Not only was it to be the entrance to the house, but also a relaxed space to entertain in and look out onto.
From the lit Tallowwood timber feature post that supports the house numbers at the front of the property, to the sandstone flagging paths, feature walls and steps, the result is simple yet luxurious.
Classic, quality products were used throughout the project. Australian hardwood for the deck and timber feature posts, Sydney sandstone for the walling and paths, and cast bronze fittings for the lights. Together, they create a timeless palette.
Plantings include a Chinese Elm (Ulmus parvifolia) feature tree at the entrance to provide shade and privacy, hedges of Murraya and Buxus, and feature plantings of Camellia sasanqua with infill plantings of Gardenia, Trachelospermum, Stephanotis and Clivea to name but a few.
