Longueville
This spacious heritage home in Longueville, NSW was renovated and enlarged in 2008 to better meet the needs of a young family with active teenagers. Joanne Green Landscape Design was tasked with producing a redesigned garden that would work with the physical changes made to the house by Willoughby Nettleton Architects Pty Ltd.
Instead of a complete makeover, the family expressed a desire to see certain features of the original house and garden retained. This meant that the new outdoor area would still have provisions for seating and privacy, using materials that would suit the heritage nature of the house.
Another major improvement came from the garden’s existing trees, some of which held magnificent potential yet suffered poor health due to environmental circumstances. These were treated and transplanted to new locations where it is hoped they will flourish. New plantings such as Shore Junipers were chosen to give the space a Mediterranean feel, as well as for their durability.
JGLD’s construction team also created a new pedestrian pathway leading up to the house from the front gate. All-new lighting and irrigation systems were also included as part of the extensive remodelling project, and the result is an enjoyable garden that will stand the test of time.
