Beauty Point
Throughout history, designers and artists have found that the most creative results can come from working with limitations. And so it was with this garden in Beauty Point, NSW, where a steep slope down from the main property made access difficult, and necessitated breaking up the space into several discrete feature areas. These “weaknesses” of the site became the garden’s strengths as the team put together a plan that was designed to be viewed from above, but that would also reveal complexities when explored at ground level.
Created with a selection of indigenous plants mixed with a few striking exotics for colour, the garden’s relaxed atmosphere invites visitors to linger and discover the wealth of sculptural art, winding walkways, and furnished lounge areas waiting behind every turn. Along with updated lighting arrays and new drip irrigation systems, Joanne Green also introduced Flannel Flowers (Actinotus helianthi), Guinean Gold Vines (Hibbertia scandens), Lady Palms (Rhapis excelsa), and Mat Rushes (Lomandra sp.) to the estate, creating not just a garden of remarkable depth, but new opportunities for entertaining guests from Spring through Autumn.
The company’s services also made it possible to repair the driveway’s concrete cancer and resurface the drive, as well as creating a new storage area hidden beneath the deck. Where a tired and underutilized garden once stood on unwelcoming terrain, a vibrant creation of sandstone walls, paths, and greenery now waits to be wandered.
